IC-718 narrow filter selection

Hello,
I was wondering if you could select IC-718’s optional narrow cw filter in wfview.

My setup:
Rpi 3B+ with Raspbian Bookworm lite with LXDE for GUI as a server

Windows 11 and Debian 11 clients for remote use

Selfmade CI-V+PTT interface with FTDI USB-TTL converter (based on this schematic https://www.maniaradio.it/forum/showthread.php?tid=458). PTT switching via PC817 opto on the DTR line

IC-718 with the optional FL-52A 500 Hz CW filter

I can select the narrow CW filter from the radios Filter button, but it works only so long as I don’t change operating mode in wfview. If I select LSB/USB and return back to CW, the narrow filter is not selected.

I checked that selecting the narrow filter via CI-V works ok on flrig.

In the IC-718 Advanced Manual on page 5-4 there is the CI-V command “1A 01 31 01” Read/Send Expanded Filter Selection (Narrow) for selecting FL-52A filter.

Link to the manual: https://www.icomeurope.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/IC-718_ENG_AM_0.pdf

Could this filter selection be implemented in wfview?

73s and thank you for developing this software!

It should be possible to add this, I will have a better look at the CI-V reference and see what I can do.

There seem to be significantly more commands available on the ‘new’ IC-718 as the older manual that I was working with has a lot less commands?

Hi Matt,

What vintage is your IC-718? Is it indeed the new “refreshed” design?

Just checking.

Hi and thanks for the replies. My radio is old, definitely the classic version, at least 15 years old. The serial number is 0301958.

Hi Matt,

Same with mine, ancient.

The new one sure has a lot of fancy commands. We will need to keep that in mind as we consider adding commands to the 718 rig file.

That’s interesting if you say the command worked on flrig OK, which suggests that the new commands were always there?

Hi, yes the filter selection commands must have been there from the start. Why they were not documented then, I don’t know.

What information I have seen about the new model, the only differences I’ve found are the FPGA IF filters, the power connector is different (4-pole) and the DSP option (same as in UT-106?) is fitted as standard.

Matt

Another interesting thing is the fact that the ‘new’ manual shows that the IC-718 has the command 1C (PTT on/off) which also wasn’t in the old manual. If this is available on all models. it will allow wfview to control the PTT without DTR/RTS.

All of the rig files are based on the latest published manual for each model (that was available when we wrote them) I wonder how many other ‘undocumented’ commands there are for other radios?

I don’t think 1C PTT command works on the classic 718. This we would have noticed with our older version of wfview which would attempt such things.
