NY4NC
I am a retired U.S. Army Solder. I served 26 years. After retirement in 2009, I enrolled in Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In December 2012, I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree. Due to some health issues, we settled in Wake Forest, NC. I serve as a Deacon for Grace Baptist Church.
In 2020, I was talking with a local ham about a desire to travel to Alaska with our camping trailer. I mentioned that there were numerous cell dead zones that we have encountered in our travels. He suggested amateur radio as a way to be able to communicate under those conditions. In August, 2020, I passed my Technician license. I quickly ran into limitations, and decided to study for and test for General. I passed that in October, 2020. Then, when I heard that the FCC would start imposing fees on applications, it spurred me to study for the Extra license. In April, 2021 I passed that test.
My first call sign was KO4GOG. I applied for, and was granted the callsign NY4NC. This has some significance for me. I grew up in upstate, NY. I ended up in North Carolina (region 4), so I left New York fo(u)r North Carolina.
