7300 w/WSJTX - Works, then not - when changing freq/mode

I got it working with 2.01 (sort of). When I start WFView then run WSJTX (I’m trying v2.1-devel by DG2YCB) someone here mentioned it and I do like the changes to this version.

  • I start WFview
  • Start WSJTX
  • Seems to do fine with the starting band/mode
  • I change the band or go from FT4-FT8 and it stops working
  • Won’t transmit or [Tune] through WSJTX
  • If I exit and kill the process (I run Linux “Andy’s Ham radio”), then restart WSJTX and it works again until I change mode, freq, or band.

Any clues on what to try?

Does the program crash, is that why you are killing the process?

Basically, the transmit/freq change stop working (at least from the WSJTX controls). WFview runs fine. I close the WSJTX (and kill the process), then restart it. Works on the freq that it starts on, but change it and stops again.

Why are you killing the WSJT-X process? Has that program crashed?

No, when I exit it and try restarting it I get “Another instance may be running try to remove stale lock file?” message. It doesn’t kill it, but I manually kill the process in the terminal. It starts again. Works fine configured with FLRig. I did remove - reinstall Wsjtx and it’s doing some weird stuff, I’ll have to mess with it some more and see if I can better document ‘weird’. I’ll see if I can figure out a pattern and post it.

I have just installed this (wsjtx-improved) and I get very inconsistent results and it seems to hang as you have mentioned. This looks like a problem with wsjtx-improved as the released version of wsjtx (2.6.1) works fine.

I have had issues with the release candidate of wsjtx (2.7.1) but as neither are released software, I suspect there is an issue with rigctld and I am not going to spend ages trying to diagnose an issue that might not be being caused by wfview.

I did the same last night. I went back to the RC7 version, it worked but strangely sluggish. Then again, that’s not an official released version. Went back to 6.1 and works perfectly. I do like that modified version, but doesn’t work right. I’ll explore the forums for that software.
Thanks for checking! I’m enjoying the latest wfview a lot so far. :+1:t2:

I think that I have found the issue.

Firstly, I updated the hamlib library in wsjtx-improved (settings/radio), and secondly I have made some changes to the rigctld to behave slightly better, and it should now respond to commands as expected.

This is currently on the master branch and I plan to make a new release (v2.02) in the next few days.

Great. I’ll watch for the new version. I hope my issue has helped with the development.

Phil, just an update for you. I did update to v2.02 and the latest of the WSJTX DG2YCB version.
All seems to be working nicely, and just bounced a signal off Australia (from Wisconsin).
I’ll report any strangeness if I come across anything. Just enjoying the new features of both!
