Audio feedback and no signal audio

I set up a new server, and it works well on the new server computer which is an HP laptop running Win 11. In trying two different client computers, I get no signal audio just feedback from the microphones on the client computers. the mics are turned on continuously. All worked well with the previous server, and I made no adjustments to the settings. Since both client computers worked perfectly with the previous server, I am thinking that maybe latency on the new (very slow) computer could be causing the problem.

The new server is a gift to our club, and it really seems to be very slow in everything it does. I Read as much as my head would take on audio problems in the forum, but didn’t see a problem match.

More information please, Kent.

Sorry,

Log is https://termbin.com/1zps

You are getting a lot of dropped packets, which is causing wfview to request re-transmission. This could be caused by a very slow server, but it could also be a network connection issue. Audio streaming with wfview requires a fast network.

Can you send a log file from the server computer too?

Also, any specific reason you are using version 1.64 instead of a v2 release?

Thanks,

Elliot, I have tried a couple of times to get a clean termbin log but there is a little square after the reference.

No problem, Kent, looking it over. --E

The last reference is for the server.

You don’t by chance have the “MON” (self monitor, aka “talkback”) turned on, on the radio, do you? That can make insane feedback and echos sometimes. If so, turn it off.

These lines in the server log indicate the incorrect audio devices are selected in the server tab:

2025-03-10 14:23:32.992 INF audio: Audio Input device "Microphone Array (Realtek(R) Audio)"
2025-03-10 14:23:32.992 INF audio: Audio Output device "Speaker (Realtek(R) Audio)"

This is almost certainly incorrect and should be the USB Codec devices.

Ahh yes, that is it, Phil.

Thank you, All worked well with the previous server on the same network, so I think this old laptop is just too slow.

I don’t think it’s too slow, you just have to pick the right audio device. Look at what Phil mentioned.

The audio settings on the server tab are grayed out, and I can’t access them. I don’t know why I downloaded an old version. Should I delete this version and start over?

Kent,

The server PC. That’s where you have to adjust the server audio settings. They are grayed out on the client side of course.

On the server PC, make sure nobody is connected. Disconnect from the radio if necessary, and then make the changes needed under the Radio Server menu.

elliot, when I go to about on the server, it says I am using version 2.03

Kent

Phil, on the server tab, all three of the audio selections are grayed out, and I can’t access them.

Kent

Hi Kent,

Looks like your server is 2.03.

Click the disconnect button, they will then magically become enabled!

I looked at the settings on my other server, and I can adjust the audio settings on the server tab. The fact that they are grayed out and not accessible on the new server leads me to believe that I need to deleted the installation and do it again. It is not going to work unless I can at least get to these settings.
