I have not used the program for a couple of months. We here in the senior community of Ashby Ponds got permission to install Xfinity in our little shack and with that implementation we should be able to get many of our hams on the air using Wfview. I started it up today, and could not get the client to work either on the Win 10 laptop that I was using, or on a mac that it was just installed on. All of the settings from the past are the same, the IP address is current, and the port forwarding on the router was checked. It worked great with these settings in the past. I must have done something wrong, but I am no smart enough to figure it out. The server program seems to be working fine.
Getting a log message – Cannot prepare WF view without rig caps - waiting on this.
https://termbin.com/8lix8 This from the client. If I put in the IP address of my server computer - 10.0.1.53 - and stay on my own network, all works well. I have rebooted the router and that did not help. maybe I will have to do the port forwarding again.
Server log to follow. https://termbin.com/5hct
Since it works with my server IP address, it would seem that I have a problem with my old Apple router. Or I am totally wrong. Thank you so much for all of your help. Much appreciated

Hi Kent,
Please send us your log files from both the client side and the server side, after you have attempted a connection.
Follow the directions closely.
Thanks,

Elliot, I have sent the logs as edits to my original message. Everything works if I stay on my own network and use the server IP address. Must be the router? I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to help. Hopefully in a few months we will have a bunch of old hams in 24 Erickson communities fighting over air time😁

10.x IP addresses are private IP addresses.
If you recall, this was the problem you faced last time as well.
You need to know your public IP address.
You can google “what is my ip address” from the server computer to find it.

I had the public IP address logged in from MY IP address 73.147.135.208. I cannot connect using that address. It is interesting that I can connect using the private IP address. That means to me that all of wfview is working, but my router is not letting the public IP address (on a different network) to work.
Kent
Correct. Check the router settings carefully.
Got it. Found out that :
A Windows update can indirectly cause a change to your private IP address. This happens because private IP addresses are often dynamically assigned by your router using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). If a Windows update resets network settings or restarts your device, the router may assign a new private IP address to your device upon reconnection.
To prevent this, you can configure a static private IP address on your device through the network settings in Windows
You can actually get a new IP address each day on most private networks.
It is indeed best if you can use a “dhcp reservation” on your router. Or go with a static configuration for the server. These are advanced topics that are specific to your router.

Super. We will pursue configuring the system for a static private IP address. So much to learn, but it’s very good for me.
