I have my WFView connected to an IC-705 operating remotely. I have configured the transceiver audio to come through headphones.
I was trying to get my headset microphone working and after sending a few blank carriers tried to identify on CW. Using the CW feature I played “TEST DE GM3ZZA” . unfortunately the sidetone came through the laptop speakers - ie NOT where I’d configured audio output to be.
I eventually got my microphone working. I hadn’t realised I needed to set the TX Audio setting to LAN, I thought it would be automatic. I presume when I operate from the shack, I’ll need to set it back to MIC (or is there a way to set it it to either?
As sidetone is generated completely independently of radio audio (and doesn’t rely on a network connected radio) it’s actually quite complicated, so I decided to just send it to the default device!
On your other question, we can’t really predict which audio source users will want to use, so we have left it up to the user to choose. The input level fader is always labelled with which is the current input (MIC/USB/LAN etc.).
One of our design principles is to try not to change any settings in the radio without user interaction, as I find software that automatically changes settings to suit how that software wants to operate quite annoying.
I know audio is quite difficult. I’m struggling to understand it and you’ve now confirmed I’m probably wasting my time and therefor I should leave it to the likes of you to provide the software to enable me to do this.
