FM default on 40m band

Hi All - new wfview user here - what a great piece of work - thanks devs. Using under Linux Mint with headless wfserver running on server with wfview on laptop. All good - but a query - can anyone explain why selecting the 40m band always seems to switch modulation to FM? To the best of my understanding, 40m is usually LSB with AM at the top end and CW towards the bottom. However when changing bands from say 80m to 40m, wfview switches from LSB to FM. Not the end of the world - just a minor nuisance. Am I missing something? Something I need to correct?

version 2 will have auto ssb or maybe even 1.64. I think disabling that helps.

This will be because the radio has FM stored as the default mode in the first band stacking register. If you change band using the buttons on the radio and select LSB then transmit, this should store that frequency/mode as the default mode for that BSR. Alternatively, depending on what radio, this should be configurable via the menu.

The band buttons in wfview simply ask the radio for the selected BSR.

Thanks

Phil

The key here is to physically walk over to the radio and change to 40M and select LSB. Then change from 40M to another band and then go back to 40M and select LSB again. Repeat three times with different 40M frequencies to clear out whatever ideas the radio has about 40M FM operation.

This is simply how the radio is designed to operate, and it surprised us too that setting frequencies and modes via the computer did not update the radio’s BSR.

This is something that we have now addressed in v2. The ‘Bands’ window now has a ‘Set’ option, the way it works is if you tune to a band/mode that you want to be the detault, in the Bands window, select the Latest, Older or Oldest BSR option and click the Set button. This will store that as the default freq/mode for that BSR.

This has only been tested on the IC-7610, but should work on any modern radio with BSR feature.
