The Printable Manual 2023-12-30 is worthy of praise. Documentation for most free software products is often lacking, but not so in this case. This first manual is incredible! It covers a lot of topics the user may not have considered in a readable manner. I hope it leads to less support request from users who ‘Read the Friendly Manual’ (RTFM).

You can thank Andy (VE3NVK) for the PDF! And wow, over 4000 downloads!

The web-based manual received a lot of updates over the past week for V2, and I will certainly ask Andy if he can make a new PDF once that work is complete.

We don’t have any translations of the manual – YET. Feel free to offer one though! I imagine we could get it translated with something like google translate and then tweak it from there?

Keep in mine everyone, the PDF manual is for version 1.64. The website is current. Once we complete updating the online manual, then I will ask our friend Andy for a new PDF version. We’re close.

Thanks Elliot for coming back promptly. Glad to help with SPA translation during my free time. How can I get the master document/template that Andy (VE3NVK) created? so I can work over it?

The PDF and any documents related to it are very out of date. Don’t translate those.

The “master document” is our website. But I need a few days to make sure I got everything updated sufficiently for version 2.

How to save and use translated manuals

You can save the translated pages using Google Chrome’s page translation tool.

  1. Download the manual using the HTTrack Website Copier.
  2. Open the downloaded page with Google Chromed, translate the page, and overwrite the translation when saving.
  3. Modify the saved translation.
  4. The manual can be distributed by copying the downloaded folder.

The Japanese manual is now being prepared using the above method.
Screenshots of the screen looks like a lot of work.

Hi Nakao, thanks for sharing.
I did start doing translations a while ago with your method (HTTrack nice piece of software BTW). It works.
I moved onto using a tweaked version:

  • Once manual is downloaded with HTTrack, convert it to word or pdf
  • upload onto google drive or one drive
  • share it with gemini or copilot
  • point your AI out to WFview site ann ask it for a summary of what WFV is? might you want to do more questions, so, AI get familiar with the topic
  • Ask AI to translate the WFV document/manual from your one/google drive with a prompt like: not creative, stick to technical, but easy to understand translation (into language you want)
  • depending on some AI variants, you would get a pretty raw decent translation straight away or AI asking you more steps.
  • Sitting with an extra large mug of coffee and read all the translated manual trough for corrections and AI excesses.
  • in my case, I rather do a cross platform PDF
