IC-705 on Macintosh

I’ve been a licensed ham for over 50 years, so I am an old dinosaur.

When I read that you can connect the Icom IC-705 without cables, I was delighted. This was mainly because when I connected a data cable between either of my Macs or my backup PC (an Intel NUC) into the IC-705, the waterfall filled with crud and the signals all but disappeared. (I also tried a different cable, but no joy. I have an i9 16-inch MacBook Pro and an M2 Pro Mac Mini, BTW.) So anyway, the cordless option was suddenly very appealing.

Maybe because I’m so old, getting ANY of the software to work absolutely eludes me. I am not a software guru by any means, and this is really frustrating me, because I’m just not getting anywhere at all…

Does anyone know of a simple, step-by-step “Do this, then do that” guide to hook an IC-705 into a Mac, please? I’m tearing my hair out!

I assume you have read over the documentation.

Is there a specific step that you are stuck on? How far did you get?

connect the 705 to the internet via the radio menu and see the ip address that is assigned to the radio.
open wfview and in the connection screen enter the ip address of the radio and the ports (the same ones set on the radio, if not changed 50001,50002,50003)
and that’s it.

I start by asking what you mean by “connected to internet”.

You are able to connect the 705 as WLAN Client to a WLAN network. After successful connect the 705 displays its IP address.

  1. VIa Wifi router

On the IC-705
MENU, SET, choose WLANset,
WLAN = ON,
Connection Type = Station(Connect to Network)
Connection Settings (Station) see DHCP (Valid after restart) ON (192.168.0.xxx)

Arrow down to Remote Settings
Press Network user1 enter your ID (my callsign )
Network User 1 Password choose a password
press Access point, Choose your WIFI network. Go up and down with arrows.
It should show ”Connected”

Then Goto
Menu , Connectors, Mode input, Data Mod should be WLAN

WLAN could loose connection, check the symbol in the 705 display,
If so go back to Access point and connect again, it should say Connected

In Mac, connect to Wifi router

In Wfview
Radio Connection choose: Network
Hostname 192.168.0.xxx, Control port 50001 ( default )
Username and Password

( don’t press ENTER after password, just tab och point somewhere else )

  1. Direct IC-705 to Mac

Choose Connection Type: Access point ( connect to Phone, PC )
Connection settings Access point, SSID IC-705, set a Password , (check IP-adress 192.168.59.1)

Go back and turn WLAN on
Menu , Connectors, Mode input, Data Mod should be WLAN

ON MacBook choose new Wifi network = IC-705 and your Password
In Wfview choose Hostname = 192.168.59.1 and connect !

Much moore stable this way.

Oh, fantastic! Many thanks. I’ll try this tomorrow. (Now 2230hrs here, so bedtime!)
