IC7300 Needs Reset to WSJT-X n JS8

This problem is not new with wfview 2.03 but I am wondering if I did something wrong in the installation. I used Elliott’s step by step presentation posted below as an installation guide for the 7300. After setup I saved the settings to an internal SD card on my 7300. When I open WFview it works fine controlling my IC7300 but when I close it and open JS8call or WSJT-X I get a “Configuration Error”. I use the SD card to restore my the saved WFview or WSJT-X settings and it clears the error.

I never change anything between wfview and any other mode to be honest. Sometimes, because I forget, I may need to change the rig’s modulation source but that’s it.

Hi Roeland, not in this context, but more gererally: would it be an option to add a possibility to change the mod input, when a WFView Client is connected and back to a defined value, when it is disconnected?

it’s a generic issue yes. However it’s a hit-and-miss situation. If I loose the connection to the server side, being in the rig or wfserver, what then…?

And what if multiple connections are there…

We have considered this and our preferred option has always been to not make any changes to the radio configuration “automatically” as the user will always be in a better position to know what they want.

It takes a few seconds to manually update the MOD source within wfview…

hmm… maybe a misunderstading: on an 9700 / 7300 the data off mod input can be USB/LAN/MIC. When a WFClient is disconnected (what way ever) , USB and LAN do not seem to appropriate (imho). So why not switch it back automatically (if the user enables that).

If there are multiple clients connected, it should be again the choice of the user to enable that feature or not.

And just answering to Phils remark: yes. That is a very good decision. There is another sw, which likes to suchs things and this is annoying. Especially, because it sets the input to LAN/USB and never back, when the sw is stopped. Therefore my suggestion, that the user has manually enabled this option.

And yes, it is easy to change this within WFView, my thoughts were more, when you forget this, are in your shack later and call cq locally. If you are not lucky, nobody tells you, that you are transmitting a carrier only.

However, if you have already discussed this and decided not to do, it is ok for me. Not so important.
