Hello.
I bought an IC-7200 radio today.
I got the following error.
The IC 7200 dial counts in one direction.
The situation is the same in the menu.
The values can only be set downwards.
Has anyone encountered this error?
What could be the reason?
Thank you.
Are you talking about wfview or just rotating the knob on the front of the radio?
I think you mean the physical knob on the radio.
If the physical knob on the panel only goes one direction, it is probably an encoder problem or wiring of the encoder. See if you can probe the wires (there should be three) on the encoder while it’s powered and rotating. Use a scope, if none available, use an AC volt meter.
Some people have fixed icom encoders by taking them apart and checking carefully. I think inside the encoder there are two chips, perhaps something you can fix. Maybe you can buy a generic encoder of the same kind and swap out the insides. Icom usually uses custom shaft lengths but otherwise it should be very common stuff inside it. I’ve also seen issues with the old ribbon cables getting dislodged and the contacts do not meet correctly, so check that as well.
Good luck,

Thanks for the info/instructions.
I’ll try to take it apart and review it.
Thanks.

that’s an issue with the encoder. I also see that someties it seems to skip a beat.
Yes. It just sets all values down.
It also leaves you out.
Can you buy a new encoder?
You can probably order them from Icom. They stock many old parts for their radios, and the 7200 isn’t that old. Try it, you may be surprised.
Some good encoder take apart photos are here, in case you wanted to try and fix yours:

If you read near the bottom, an encoder had the same issue and just needed a new comparator ($1).

Thanks for the link, I’ll look into it…
If I can’t fix it, I’ll order a new one.
Thanks again for your help.
