Any ideas on if it would be possible to make this work with an id 5100
In theory if that radio supports CI-V it could be done. However, there would not be any waterfall and it would require a custom audio and CI-V interface to the computer. There’s not even a PTT command, not an accessory port, so this would definitely require a special interface through the mic connector.
Given the unit’s propensity for early display failures I’d say it’s not likely to see high demand.
If you’re after computer control you could try a hamlib program like flrig, possibly using the IC-7100 model and then specifying the CI-V address manually. For memory programming, that radio is supported by CHIRP.
