Issue switching band with IC-9700

Hello,
I’m using Wfview with an R8600, 9700 and 7610.

With the 9700 when switching band, the app actually switches the band but the 9700 comes back to the previous frequency. For instance let’s say the VFO A on Main VFO is 145.000 and I’m switching to 70cm, then the app show 432.000; the 9700 goes to 432.00 and revert within a second to 145.000 whereas the app is still at 432.000.
Is there a settings I’m missing or is it a bug ?

I have not seen that behavior on my 9700.

Do you have any other radio programs running at the same time? Are you connecting over ethernet?

Hi,

I’ve tested both in USB and Ethernet and the behavior is the same. Don’t have any other running program controlling the radio. This happens only with 70cm band
Here is a video showing the effect :

IC9700 Band switching issue

I have never seen that with the IC9700, so I suspect it is an issue with your BSR (band stacking register). All the wfview band buttons do is tell the radio to switch to a particular band using the BSR.

It is possible that your 70cm BSR is actually stuck on 2m, can you try selecting the 70cm band then manually change frequency to within the 70cm band?

Phil

Hi Stephane.

It might also help to post what log messages you receive when pressing the 70cm band button?

Thanks

Phil

I did a change from 2m to 70cm. This display this log :

2024-04-17 10:35:58.058 INF rig: BSR in rigCommander: band: “\u0002” regCode: “\u0001” freq Hz: 435300020 , mode: 1 , filter: 1 data: false
2024-04-17 10:35:58.058 INF system: receiveBandStackReg BSR received into main: Freq: 435300020 , mode: 1 , filter: 1 , data mode: false

Then switching to 2m again gives this log

2024-04-17 10:36:12.227 INF rig: BSR in rigCommander: band: “\u0001” regCode: “\u0001” freq Hz: 145000000 , mode: 5 , filter: 1 data: false
2024-04-17 10:36:12.237 INF system: receiveBandStackReg BSR received into main: Freq: 145000000 , mode: 5 , filter: 1 , data mode: false

Both looks normal. But the frequency switched backed for the 70cm happens without any entry into the log

I’m not at the station right now, I will test with the rig locally during lunch time later

Stephane

We’ll need a link to the log file as well as your station details such as computer, operating system, and version of wfview.

I’m using Windows 10 on 2 machines (local in USB) and remotely via ethernet with Wfview 1.64.

I’ve passed by the station during lunch time and found out that actually the issue is probably with the IC9700. The IC9700 is apparently not able to have both MAIN and SUB VFOs in the same band (Full duplex). So that the BSR of the MAIN VFO shows the band active in SUB VFO as grayed…

For instance
MAIN VFOA is 2m
SUB VFOA is 70cm
then unable to set MAIN VFOA on 70cm

or

MAIN VFOA is 70cm
SUB VFOA is 23cm
then unable to set MAIN VFOA on 23cm

As Wfview 1.64 manage only one VFO this is then impossible to switch between the active band on the MAIN VFO to the one which is already enabled on the SUB VFO.

This is maybe solved in the version 2.0 with DUAL VFO support ?

Maybe try turning off DUAL and just using one VFO, see if that works.

I think you are correct in your assumption.

Main and sub never can be the same band no. I wanted to ask if you were on M/S or just M. Because that is the issue and you just said it yourself.
