Loopback - no sound

Hello

I’m probably doing something wrong so I apologise in advance.

I’ve running Linux Mint v22 uname -a: Linux Dell 6.8.0-49-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon Nov 4 02:06:24 UTC 2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Just built 2.01, not sure if I was having an issue with earlier versions, as I dont recall playing with loopback earlier.

I can create the loopback device (I have a LOT of devices listed under QT Audio)
If I choose pipewire or default all is good, however if I choose any like
hw:CARD=Loopback,DEV=0 I lose audio but the waterfall keeps working, also wsjtx complains.

There are several similar Loopback devices like Front:CARD and Sysdefault:CARD. LOTS!

meeko@Dell:/etc/modprobe.d$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7418000 irq 52
1 [HDMI ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
HDA Intel HDMI at 0xf741c000 irq 54
10 [Loopback ]: Loopback - Loopback
Loopback 1
11 [Loopback_1 ]: Loopback - Loopback
Loopback 2

By the way:
Is there a cli way to list all devices, and remove some of them to simplify the listing so I can screencap?

You can get a list of the detected devices by looking at the logfile of wfview. Just press “Log” in wfview. Then scroll up near the top. You can press “send to termbin” to send it there and then paste the URL it gives you into this support forum – then we can all see it.

With your specific issue, it may help to close both wfview and wsjt-x, and then to open wsjt-x first. The first program to open a loopback interface sets the sample rate. wfview will generally support any sample rate (we have a nice sample rate converter). So try getting wsjt-x open first.

Don’t forget to experiment with the three audio systems that wfview supports (qt, port, and rt). You may find one to work better for your usage.

Ive uploaded logs:
not working (loopback) https://termbin.com/pwuj6
working (pipewire) https://termbin.com/rehg

The start wsjtx idea doesnt help, wsjtx wont start with loopback selected, complains about the config, so I cant get as far as loading wfview.
