No audio with Icom 7100

Hi, I am able to control my Icom 7100 just fine from an ASUS laptop but there is no audio through my headphones nor can I get any modulation when I transmit. I have tried both an analogue headset as well as a Logitech USB set.

My operating system is Windows 11, wfview was downloaded from your site and installed quickly and without problems.
The laptop is connected to the radio by USB cable.

I have looked at length through the FAQs as well as other online resources but have no success.

Thank you

Please provide the following information with your question:

  1. Operating System:
  2. Method of download attempted (from wfview.org, package manager, source code, etc):
  3. Radio Make and Model:
  4. Method of radio connectivity (USB, WiFi, Ethernet, etc):
  5. Did you check the FAQ and read the manual?

Perhaps I’m missing something but I think this is exactly in the FAQ.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Hi Elliott, thank you for coming back so quickly. I could not (and still can’t) find this post/answer so am not really any the wiser. I suppose the basic question is whether or not I can make an SSB call through my laptop to the 7100?
The reason for asking is that, later in the year, I will be having a knee replaced and I won’t be able to access my shack for a few weeks. If I can find a program (and minimal extra hardware ideally) to control the 7100 remotely, at least for SSB, that would be great.

Thanks again for your help.

You can run a server with a PC, Raspberry Pi, or Laptop to place your 7100 on to your network.

Then you can use a second PC (Laptop or Desktop style, it doesn’t matter which) to access it, with audio. The second PC can be in your living room or around the world, provided you setup port forwarding on your router.

Both computers will run a copy of wfview.

I do this with my Icom IC-718, which is in my garage. I can access that radio from anywhere.

Hi Elliott,

Thanks for your support. I’ve now got the remote pc and server setup and I can get audio in the remote pc as well as modulate the transmitter. I haven’t managed a QSO just yet. Two things I can’t do remotely are switch the radio on or off remotely and I can’t use the CW keyed but I will recheck all my settings, as well as try calls again when I have time.
