Route mp3 audio through wfview

I would like to route audio from pre-recorded files through WFview for contest work. IE: an mp3 with a CQ, a 73 for closing the contact, etc.
My setup is Ubuntu 24.01 server connected to IC-7300 via USB, Windows 10 client. Do-able?

Hi Glenn,

Do-able but it will be annoying for you to switch your client between playback program and microphone.

Follow the virtual audio cable guide and use a program like VLC to play back the MP3. Once someone answers, re-route the audio back to the microphone.

There may be some kind of “soft virtual mixer” that would merge the audio sources together down the virtual audio cable. This would alleviate you from having to switch the virtual cable each time.

Something like this should work (I have never tried it though) VB-Audio VoiceMeeter

I think it will allow you to create a virtual audio output device which you select as the microphone input in wfview and you can then have multiple audio sources routed to it.

Just tried that and it worked fine. I found that within wfview I had to select the audio input “Voicemeeter Out B1” and then within the Voice Meeter software select whatever your microphone device is as the source for Stereo Input 1.

Whatever software you use for playback should use the sound card “Voicemeeter Input” and the level can be controlled via the “Virtual Input” fader.

That’s pretty cool. I bet folks that run nets (long preambles) or play newsline articles could find that handy.

Cool. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

Got it to work with Voicemeeter!! I can now record CQs, 73’s, Preambles, etc, to an mp3 and play them directly through the computer. That’s a neat piece of software. WFView rocks as well.
Thanks for the assist.
