Separate PTT for IC-9700

Hello,

I am using Wfview 1.64 connected to the IC-9700 via LAN.

It works fine but now I want to use an external sequencer to control the switching of the mast-mounted preamp and amplifier. I use a rigblaster unit connected via serial port for PTT control of the sequencer and it works great with WSJT-X as that program allows to configure different ports for CAT and for PTT.

The problem is that Wfview, when configured to use LAN, does not allow to configure PTT using a serial port.

Can this option be considered, please?.

Hi Gabriel,

Why use the computer, when you can use the radio’s built-in system?

Set the “TX Delay” (Set → Function → TX Delay) so as to allow all the relays and devices to switch. Perhaps 100ms would be a very safe value.

Then use the ACC connector on the rear “SEND” pin (#3) to trigger a relay or MOSFET to switch your preamp and/or amplifier. I’d probably do a MOSFET and then have the MOSFET key any relays you need. This has the advantage of totally offloading any current and providing some protection to the radio (but please, add more!).

This is also better than using the computer because it is possible for there to be some variable latency from the computer. Usually CI-V commands (such as PTT) go with less latency than the associated transmit audio, and it all varies somewhat.

If you really need a hardware PTT input on the computer, please have a look at our supported USB controllers. One of the least expensive ones could be wired to your RIG Blaster’s RTS or DTR signals (RS-232 GPIO hack). This will get you the hardware PTT from that box.

The TX Delay parameter in the IC-9700 can only be set to a maximum of 30ms (at least in my unit). I tried it and ended up burning the preamp. That is why I need to use an external sequencer.

I have seen positive reports of using that way with standard preamps, usually feed via the coax cable, but it is not my case.

Bear in mind that I use HF-400 relays in order to hold the EME power. I supposed they are slower than 30ms.

The configuration I have now with my external sequencer works fine with WSJT-X, JTDX and CW-Type that allow to configure a separate serial port por PTT, but I can’t transmit in SSB because wfview does not have that option.

That is why I requested it. It would be great if that feature could be implemented, otherwise I will have to look for alternatives in order to be able to do SSB remotely.

Well, that’s too bad about the limited range of the 9700 delay, I didn’t realize it was so short!

For now, just use one of our many supported USB hardware controllers as your PTT input, since we do not have support for RS-232 input signaling.
