Sound issues when setting up 4G remote

Please provide the following information with your question:

  1. Operating System: Win 11
  2. Method of download attempted (from wfview.org, package manager, source code, etc): Install file from WFview.org
  3. Radio Make and Model: Icom IC-7100
  4. Method of radio connectivity (USB, WiFi, Ethernet, etc):
  5. Did you check the FAQ? Yes

I suspect this to be a network problem but I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have remote setup running server software on a laptop on the remote site. Everything works fine, except that the sound is stable for only 11 seconds, gets choppy with a great number of packet losses for 3-4 seconds, and then 11 seconds of stable sound again. And so it keeps going…

I had the setup running stable in-house on my LAN.
I have tested from different locations (different nets) and two different clients without results. So i guess it,s something with my 4G router on the remote site.

I’ve spent hours trying to figure this out without any success, so all ideas are most welcome.

Use the sample rate of 16KHz and select the codec “Opus 1ch”.

Then try each of the three Audio Systems (QT, Port, and RT) on both the server (under Radio Server) and on the client (under Radio Access).

You will need to be 100% sure you are disconnected when you make the change, and then reconnect to test it.

Sometimes one audio library works better than others.

Thank you for the help.
I switched from QT to PortAudio and that made a huge difference. I still have packet losses every 11 seconds, but the PortAudio seems to cope with it far better.

again, thanks a lot

And you are using the Opus codec at 16 KHz, yes?

Yes, I am.
The setup is like this on the client side:

  • RX latency 150ms
  • TX latency 150ms
  • RX codec Opus 1 ch
  • TX codec Opus 1ch
  • Sample rate 16000
  • Half Duplex
  • Port Audio

On the server side I use the USB codec for both mic and audio, and Audio system is set to Port Audio.
