Version 2.03 CIV issues Re IC-756PRO III

Hiya all,

not sure in which category to drop this, but here we go.
I’ve been using WFView for two years now with no issues (Xubuntu 22 dual boot Lubuntu 22). It worked charm until version 1.6 with the following config:

756<–>Serial/USB<–>WFView<–>ShuttleXpressContour<–>Qlog<–>HRDlog

Occasionally, I hooked up my IC-7100 too in same shape and just flawless.

Being on Xubuntu a couple of days ago, I just did the script to update and all good no compiling error or so. It never did by the way. After firing up the latest (2.0?) It recognised the radio hex, showed freq and volume and nothing else. I did check radio menu for bit speed/address/transceive etc. No changes.

Kinda of miscommunication I assumed. Then when checking the log, I could see after the first handshaking, an error coming out ‘ERR not received’ but bits flowing up; I decided to tweak a bit the polling (thanks for the hints on the manual), unchecked AUTO and put 76ms as polling. That got rid of the error and some controls came up to life but still weird beahaviour as:

  • WFView refuses to follow Qlog cluster freqs smoothly, but it does with the radio with some lagging.
  • No way of using TUNE as I used to. Simply stop working and ‘starting cycle’ pops up but no action
  • The shuttleXpress controller works just the ring dial and missed fine tuning (1khz) function with the main jog. Some programmed buttons stop working at all and others work. I did reset the controller, no luck.
  • The Qlog On Air function via reporting HRDlog stop working (why?) - I did check Qlog. All settings good.

I did swap WFV for another CAT program and all seems working again, but I do love WFV.

Laptop has dual boot Xubuntu-Lubuntu with identical configuration, So I did boot the second partition, started WFview 1.6 and ALL WORKS OK as always.

Is there something broken or buggy down there? or Is it me that ill compile the last version.

Thanks for any advice folks,

Carlos, 2W0YVY

Hi Carlos,

You are probable the first person to test wfview 2 using a 756 Pro III.

If you feel up for it, you can open the 756 rig file with Rig Creator and check the commands for typos and omissions.

https://wfview.org/wfview-user-manual/rig-files/

Also, how are you connecting QLog to wfview?

Hi Carlos,

I think there was an error with the ATU command and the transmit status command.

Can you try this file (attached), which I made some changes to? Place the file in this location:

/home/USERNAME/.local/share/wfview/wfview/rigs

(I’d try it but I lack a 756 Pro III!)

I can do that I think.
never done it before but my guess is, I can follow radio service manual CIV section to compare hex instructions. Is that right?

Qlog to WFview trough Hamlib

cheers

Hi again, and thanks again. It amazes me how attentive you are with a large base of users.

I did place the rig definition and VFW came back to life! but limping

Two other bits I forgot to mention and still stuck: Smeter bar is now less responsive and during TX doesn’t work at all and Antenna switch menu just does show antenna in use but it does not actuate.

I am attaching logs, pre and post radio definition file patch. hope it helps.

Happy to help in my total hard coding incapacity  but definitely able to do housekeeping, design, web bits, tracking, documentation etc
