Remote tuning knobs

I have an RC-28 which works great. I need a second tuning knob. I know there are other types supported. Does anyone have a link or a name of other devices that are supported?

I like the Contour ShuttlePro V2 personally.

Currently wfview only supports a single USB controller, I am in the process of writing support for multiple controllers and will hopefully have the ability to select which VFO to use per controller.

Yes. I had to look around a bit. Just ordered one. RC-28 is nice but awfully expensive.

If you use one of the Contour shuttle devices, don’t forget, you do not need to install any drivers or programs with it. Just plug it in and wfview should recognize it in the USB controller setup page.

Countour ProV2 works perfectly (do not install drivers!! … just setup on "ExternalController > Setup USB Controller)

So here are my experiences with with the different Shuttles:

ShuttleXpress (5-knob):
will be recognized by wfview and is working flawless. Was modified by
me for external PTT (footswitch to ground) without any problems.

Shuttle Pro (Hercules branded):
Was not recognized by wfview

Shuttle Pro (Pinnacle branded but with reference to contourdesign drivers):
Was not recognized by wfview

Shuttle Pro v2:
will be recognized by wfview and is working flawless.

Hi Geoffrey.

Most likely the other devices have a different hardware identifier to the ‘standard’ Shuttle devices. If you can post your wfview log (at least the beginning where it gives a list of detected HID devices) I should be able to add support for the Hercules/Pinnacle devices easily (as long as the commands are the same as the ‘real’ Shuttle ones.)

As (like me) you seem to own a few of these controllers, you may be interested to know that I am currently testing support for multiple simultaneous external controllers. This will allow (for example) one to control VFOA and one VFOB.

Wow, that sounds amazing. I suspected this with the hardware
identifier, therefore I bought these unconventional controllers. Now,
sorry my missing knowledge, but where do I find the wfview.log ?

Hi Geoffrey.

Click on the Log button on the bottom of the wfview window, you can then either copy/paste the relevant lines or click ‘Send to Termbin’ and it will automatically upload the log to the Termbin website, and copy the URL to your clipboard so you can then paste the URL into a message here.

Ok, so I connected the Pinnacle Shuttle Pro and started wfview. Here
is the Log-file:

Then I closed wfview, connected the Hercules Shuttle Pro and started
wfview again. Here is the complete log - hope it helps:

Hi Geoffrey.

Annoyingly, the ‘dump’ of connected USB controllers was added in v1.60 and you seem to be running a weekly build from v1.59!

I would recommend updating to the latest v1.62 anyway (and then send the logs again!)

Thanks

Phil

Of course I will install 1,62 …now.

Ok, here is the result of v1,62 with Pinnacle Shuttle Pro Controller:

Maybe the Controller is broken ? I bought both used… cheap…

That’s great, I will add that device (0b33:0011) as another option for the Shuttle Pro. It does look like the Hercules isn’t being detected? Does Windows make the USB device ‘inserted’ sound when you plug it in?

73 Phil M0VSE

I think I heard no sound wih the Hercules. Unfortunately I don’t have
any sofware for it. It came with a firewire card. But I will play
around and try to make it run after some sleep, maybe a broken usb
cable or so… we will see.

Ok, I coudn’t sleep before solving this problem. I opened both Shuttle
Pro (v1) controllers and on both chips is a sticker which have printed
on it:

RMTWBV11
CONTOUR

Everything else is identical too. So I exchanged the cables and then
I heard the sound on/off. It appears that there is a broken track on
the pcb or bad solder joint. But I found a position where the
controller was recognized.

Here is the result for the Hercules Shuttle Pro which came in a bundle
with “DV Action! Pro”:

2023-03-21 02:56:12.745 INF usbcontrol: Starting usbController()
2023-03-21 02:56:12.750 INF usbcontrol: “Compile-time version matches

2023-03-21 02:56:12.754 INF usbcontrol: Found available HID devices

2023-03-21 02:56:12.770 INF usbcontrol: “Device found: (0b33:0011)

usage_page 0x000c”
2023-03-21 02:56:12.828 INF usbcontrol: Resetting USB Knobs to defaults

So the same code, and hey the “11” is even printed on the sticker of the chip.

Since these controllers previously used for video editing can today be
found for a bargain (~ € 10,–) this is a real cheap solution for an
external control.

Now, good night…

That’s great, thanks Geoffrey. It looks like they are based on the original ContourPro (not Pro2) I assume the button layout is the same as the Pro2?

As you say, very useful that they are available so cheaply.

73 Phil

No, not Pro v2…the button layout is the same as the old Shuttle Pro
with only 13 buttons. The two buttons left and right of the shuttle
wheel are not available. Otherwise it is like the Shuttle Pro v2.

Here is a picture:
https://support.hercules.com/en/product/dvactionpro-en/
The Buttons are marked on the pcb:

…SW1…SW2…SW3…SW4
SW5…SW6…SW7…SW8…SW9
.
.
.
.
SW10…SW11
SW12…SW13
