Sounds drops out in Windows 11 connected to the Xiegu X6200

As the moderators prefer a separate thread by machine type, I have created this one for WFServer on X6200 and WFView on Windows 11.
I suggest you also read the thread at Sounds drops out in Windows 11 connected to the Xiegu X6100
Which covers similar problems with WFView on Windows 11 accessing the X6100.

The X6200 is a different radio from the 6100 in several ways. One point is that its WiFi connectivity is improved, and a stable connection to the WLAN is possible. Unfortunately, it appears to suffer similar issues with WFView audio dropping out, as seen with the X6100.

I have seen on this forum that the least load, most reliability, and least dropouts can be achieved using the Opus codec and setting the latency slider to maximum.
One question from my side is about the compatibility of versions. There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows in v 1.64 and a 64-bit version of WFview in version 2.03. Of these, running v1.64/X86 appears to be the most responsive on my Windows 11 (64-bit) installation - but what version of the WFServer on the X6200 should be used with each of the clients? Perhaps the embedded WFServer in the X6200 needs an upgrade?

27-02-2025 So far, using my updated custom, X6200 rig file, while extending the time before the audio stream stops, has not cured the problem. Packet loss is still occurring over WiFi. Even temporarily disabling the scope data (one of the largest network loads I would expect) only extends the time before the non-recoverable break. I have tried different codecs, some seem better than others but none so far have been able to recover after losing UDP packets.
Today, Amazon should deliver my USBC-Ethernet adapter. If Audio is stable via that route, it would be proof that the issue lies with the limitation of network bandwidth via my WiFi network.
I will update here most likely only tomorrow as amazon deliver here in the evening normally.

Having switched to a cable connection rather than WiFi, the Ping time is down from 60+ mS to 1mS and the missed packet errors have disappeared in the WFView log.

However, despite various combinations of audio CODEC, sample rate etc, the best I can achieve is about 15-20 seconds of audio before it stops.

Looking at the log, it appears the last actions are the periodic ones and there is one related to a CW sidetone. I am using SSB, so why should something be happening with a CW sidetone?
The log is included below. I am going to see if I have anything around CW sidetone in my rig file and remove it if I have.

Ed DD5LP.

UPDATE: reading the online manual pages, the CW sidetone (ie CW operation via WFView) is not yet implemented, it is only under development - if so why is a reference made to it in my log file? Is it possible some of the new code is in the v 2.0.3 build?

Here’s the log:

Further Update,
Switching back to version 1.64 of WFView the audio lasts a lot longer (minutes) before breaking however I am unable to use my modified rig file with this version of the program and I think we should try to get everything working on the current version of WFView not an old one.

Hi Ed,

I agree, let’s focus on the new version, but your notes on trying the older one are still valuable, helps us compare things.

Sidetone is our generation of beeps on the client side of wfview. Just the beep sound. You’re seeing some messages about the module being loaded.

This does not mean CW sending is supported on the radio though.

I still don’t understand why the audio drops in 10-20 seconds though.

Can you try sticking with uLaw 8-bit as the codec, and see if it is double the length of “connection before failure” compared to 16 bit LPCM 1ch?

Use whichever Audio System works best for your computer (Qt, Port, RT).

de W6EL

Thanks, Elliot, so I don’t need to worry about the CW sidetone lines in the log, in that case.

What I have found with the uLaw 8 bit, the audio can run up until almost a minute and what is more interesting is that when the audio drops if I then connect again, it’s only there for a short time but disconnect and reconnect another two times and I have the audio for over 55 seconds again. Unfortunately, I don’t now see any errors in the log which would explain why the audio streaming stops.

However what about the “invalid Qtime” in this section of the log?

2025-02-27 20:10:33.330 INF udp: udpAudio Got new radio time: ( 72637545 ) QTime(20:10:37.545) Offset: -4215 Calc time: **QTime(Invalid)**

2025-02-27 20:11:05.352 INF audioconverter: Closing audioConverter() Input: 2 Channels of 0 48000 Float Output: 1 Channels of 1 8000 Int1

The audio ran for about 3 seconds before dropping - so perhaps the watchdog has an issue when the Qtime is not available?

73 Ed.
Edit: Added three back tick marks to the beginning and end of the log text for formatting clarity.

Hi Ed,

If it’s the first UDP time reported, then we don’t have a basis for it to compare yet. I think that’s the case with your reported time, no problem.

–E
de W6EL

OK, no need to worry about the first Qtime not being there.

I have downloaded your very latest exe file and run that instead of v 2.03 and it seems better and in case I have messed something up I decided to take my modified rig file out of the equation and ran with the standard IC705 rig file. The audio streaming stopping result was the same if a little longer - here is the log of two audio interruptions. I now have an invalid command 1A05 - which checking the IC705 handbook is Tone control - which as far as I have tested, the X6200 doesn’t support - hence the error message. But… WFView says it received it from the rig, perhaps the error should say invalid response to 1A05 received from rig?
The two WRN messages did not come up when using the standard v 2.0.3 (and those functions are defined in the rig file) - I guess this is something to do with the latest code changes ? In any case it is not what is stopping the audio streaming.
